Some Lessons in Life

These are just some of the things I learned today and one week ago…

* I must not give any cellphone number to any one. I must ask permission of the owner of the cell number  before I will give it to somebody. I gave the cell phone number of our principal to a teacher-applicant when the latter asked for it. Ma’am Vinluan told me that it was not right.

* Everything has its end. So, I must do now what I think is right because it might be that a minute from now is too late already.

* Pain is part of growing up.

* Acceptance of reality may be painful but it is one way of liberating my self.

* There are still gentlemen. When I rode in a bus going back to Digos, a handsome man in his late 20′s offered his seat to me who was standing that moment. So, he stood from Banate to Otsenta.

* There are so many blessings in life that I must be thankful for.

* What I don’t know will not add a burden to me.

My Lola

My Lola and I on March 8, 2009

At around 5:50 PM this day while I was giving an exam to my Fil 102 class at Cor Jesu College, I received a text message from my father…”day re-an patay na lola inday nimo..”

I was not able to hold my emotions. Tears immediately flowed down just when one of my students named Rethyl passed her test paper and answer sheet. This situation made her confused.

Rethyl asked, “Naunsa ka miss?”

“Nagtext ‘yong papa ko na patay na raw ang aking lola.”

“Condolence Miss,” she immediately uttered.

Other students were still answering. I mustered all my energy to control my emotions.

I thought of my lola. She was better last Sunday compared to the previous days. I thought of those days we spent together…only few days, I said to my self. I always thought before that there would be more time to treat my lola…to spend time with her in Davao or somewhere else…those will not be materialized anymore.

Reflection:

I regret the fact that I haven’t told my lola that I love her.

May she rest in peace.

Guillermo

Guillermo was in-charge in facilitating the giving of “tithes and offering” last Sunday at Banate Foursquare Gospel Church. He caught my attention because I knew he was mute. A question suddenly invaded my consciousness, “Unsaon kaya niya pag-ingon na oras na para maghatag sa tithes and offering?”

I observed him. He uttered, “Ohhhhhhh,ohhh..ahhh….ahhh….ahhhh…ohhhh….” He was producing sounds like a cooing of a baby. Then he pointed the offering bags. Usherettes held the bags and we dropped our offerings in it. We sang…”Muhatag sa kalipay diha sa Ginoo. Muhatag sa kalipay diha sa Ginoo. Daygon ta ang Diyos, musalig ta Niya. Sa malipayong kasing-kasing, hallelujah!” We sang this twice. Then, the usherettes handed the bags to Guillermo. He held the bags. He closed his eyes. He uttered a prayer. “Ohhhhhh,ahhhh…ahhhhhh..ohhhhhhhhhhh”. The prayer lasted for about three minutes.

After the prayer, I reflected for a moment. “This man is indeed giving the best that he can in order to glorify the Lord.” Even before, during testimonies, he always shared something about his life. I couldn’t understand him but I believe God can.

Guillermo is a man of late 40′s or early 50′s. His wrinkles are already evident. For me, he is not handsome but in the sight of God, I believe he is. (After all, God looks at the heart not on the outside appearance.) His life is a living testimony for me…for us.
