One of my Grade V students named Sheila Tanggaro approached me yesterday afternoon while I was applying a red lipstick on my lips.
She said, “Ma’am, di ko mueskwela ugma.” (“Ma’am, I will not go to school tomorrow.”)
“Y man?” I asked. (Why?)
“Wala na man gud mi’y bugas (We don’t have rice anymore.),” she answered directly and went away.
I was not able to utter a word.
